We all know the top tourist attractions of the French capital. And if it’s your first time in the City of Love, then of course it’s worth visiting the Eiffel Tower and the Sacré Coeur. But if you have the time, even if it’s just a few hours in the late afternoon, take a moment to explore some of the lesser known parts of this incredibly beautiful place. Give yourself a taste of what it’s like to experience the real Paris. Here’s three ideas to get you started.
1. Parc de Belleville
If you want a splendid view over the city without the many tourists that usually go with it, check out Belleville Park. You’ll find far less tourists here, so you can actually take in the view and enjoy the moment without someone pushing you away. The climb to the top of the park makes for a good workout and the view is more than worth it. One of our absolute favourites!
2. Place Sainte-Marthe
At a walking distance from the Parc de Belleville lies one of the cutest squares in Paris; la Place Sainte-Marthe and its neighbouring street, la rue Sainte-Marthe. Treat yourself to a nice glass of wine -you deserve it after climbing those stairs in the Parc de Belleville- on one of the terraces and then go for a stroll through the colourful street that is la rue Sainte-Marthe.
3. Have some food at le Marché des Enfants Rouge
This little market -the oldest covered market in Paris- houses not one, but several gems in terms of good food. One of our personal favourites is ‘Le Burger du Marché’, they do an absolutely delicious burger and you get to choose what cheese you want to have with it. Another place worth checking out is ‘Le Traiteur Marocain’ for some lovely Moroccan dishes. If neither one of those sounds appealing to you, try the Italian place, their ‘Pâtes aux Truffes’ (truffle pasta) is to die for.
